Application of fireproof cable and mineral insulated cable

Mineral insulated cable is abbreviated as Mi cable. When used as wiring, it is commonly called magnesium oxide cable or fireproof cable in China.

Mineral insulated cables were developed earlier abroad. Arnold Francois Borel, a Swiss engineer, put forward the idea of mineral insulated cables at the end of the 19th century and obtained the patent right in 1896. From 1934 to 1936, France and Britain were put into production and developed rapidly. The major industrial countries Italy, Canada, Australia, the United States, the Soviet Union and Japan were developed and put into production one after another. China also developed and produced in the 1960s, and began mass production at the end of the 20th century. In the 21st century, it entered the national fire protection design code and was widely used in China.

Mineral insulated cable composition

Mineral insulated cable is a kind of cable with annealed copper as conductor, dense magnesium oxide as insulation and annealed copper tube as sheath. If necessary, a plastic outer sheath is extruded outside the annealed copper sheath. A low smoke halogen-free sheath can be added outside for smoke-free and halogen-free occasions with special requirements.

Advantages of mineral insulated cable

Because all materials of mineral insulated cable are inorganic materials, it has some advantages that other cables cannot have. Such as fire prevention, large current carrying capacity, mechanical damage resistance, halogen-free and non-toxic, explosion-proof, waterproof, corrosion-resistant, long service life, safety, overload resistance, high temperature resistance, low cost, small bending radius, ant resistance, rat bite resistance, copper sheath as protective grounding wire, etc.

At present, the widely used fire-resistant cables mainly include UL series flame-retardant cables and flame-retardant low smoke halogen-free cables.

Fireproof cable aluminum strip is a widely used fireproof cable at this stage, mainly including UL series flame-retardant cable and flame-retardant low smoke halogen-free cable. The wire and cable industry is the second largest industry in China after the automotive industry. Cable products undertake important data, image and other information transmission tasks in buildings and engineering safety systems.

The flame retardant performance is better than that of the standard low smoke halogen-free materials, and the smoke concentration is low. At the trunk level, lay multiple specimens on the simulated vertical axis. There is no smoke concentration specification for trunk level cables, which are generally used for floor vertical and horizontal wiring.

The good function of fire-proof cable is increasingly recognized by customers and has been widely used in basic industry and civil construction. We all know that it is a very risky thing, so the choice is also very important. The corrosion resistance of fire-proof cable is good, the shielding function is good, and the corrosion resistance of copper sheath is excellent. In special or corrosive environment to copper, a low smoke halogen-free or plastic outer protective layer should be added to the copper sheath.
